Daikin Heat Pump Error Codes
Daikin is the world's largest HVAC manufacturer and a leading ductless and heat-pump brand in BC rebate installs. Daikin systems self-diagnose and show an alphanumeric code (A-, C-, E- and U-series) on the indoor unit or remote. The conditions below cover the faults we see most across the Lower Mainland.
How Daikin shows faults: Daikin heat pumps show an alphanumeric code on the indoor unit or remote (A = protections, C = sensors, E = outdoor/compressor, U = communication). The conditions below explain the common ones.
Indoor/Outdoor Communication Error
highThe heat pump lost the data link between the indoor and outdoor units and stopped — Daikin reports this in the U-series (e.g. U4) on the indoor display or remote.
Indoor Thermistor Fault
moderateAn indoor room or coil thermistor is reading out of range, so the system cannot control capacity properly — typically a C-series code on Daikin units.
Freeze-Up or High-Pressure Protection
moderateThe unit tripped a protection because the coil iced up in cooling or pressures ran too high — an A-series protection (e.g. A5) on Daikin systems.
Outdoor Unit / Compressor Protection
highThe outdoor unit reported a compressor, inverter or power fault and shut the system down — Daikin E-series (e.g. E5/E6) codes.
Low Refrigerant / Loss of Charge
highThe system shows pressures and temperatures consistent with low refrigerant — it loses capacity and may trip protections. Refrigerant work is licensed in BC.
Condensate Drain / Float Fault
moderateA wall-mounted or ducted indoor unit tripped its drain protection because condensate is not clearing.
