Gas Boiler Error Code Lookup
A plain-English reference to 160+ fault codes across 13 boiler brands — what each code means, what causes it, and when to call a licensed BC gas technician.
Smell gas, feel dizzy, or hear a CO alarm? Don't troubleshoot. Leave the building immediately and call 911 or FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911 from outside. Never bypass a safety lockout or attempt gas work yourself — in BC it must be done by a licensed gas fitter.
Modern gas boilers display a fault code whenever a safety circuit detects a problem. The code tells you which system tripped — but not the underlying cause, which still has to be diagnosed by a licensed technician. Pick your brand below for a full A–Z reference: every code is explained in plain English with its likely causes, severity, and exactly when professional help is required.

How to use this reference safely
- 1. Read the exact code. Note the letters and numbers exactly as shown — a single character changes the meaning.
- 2. Open your brand's page. Find the code and read its likely causes and severity.
- 3. Make only the safe checks. Thermostat, power, the gas isolation valve and system pressure are fine to check. Anything touching gas, combustion or safety controls is not.
- 4. Reset at most once. If the code returns, switch the boiler off and call a licensed technician.
Boiler error codes — FAQ
What does a boiler error code actually mean?
A boiler error (fault) code is the way a modern gas boiler reports that one of its safety circuits has tripped — ignition, flame sensing, water flow, temperature, venting or electronics. The code points to the affected system so a technician knows where to start. It is a symptom, not a root cause: the boiler shuts down to protect itself, and a licensed gas technician then diagnoses the true underlying fault before any repair.
Can I just keep resetting my boiler to clear the code?
A single reset after a one-off event is usually fine. But repeated resets without fixing the cause can be dangerous — especially for ignition, gas-supply and venting faults — and can crack a heat exchanger or flood the combustion chamber with unburned gas. In British Columbia, work on the gas, combustion or safety controls of a boiler must be done by a licensed gas fitter. If a code keeps returning, switch the boiler off and call GasBoilers.ca at 604-359-1081.
Do you diagnose error codes over the phone?
Often, yes. Tell us your boiler brand and the exact code on the display and we can usually tell you whether it is something safe for you to check (thermostat, power, an isolation valve) or whether it needs a licensed technician on site. Our Red Seal–certified, TSBC gas-licensed team services every brand listed here across Greater Vancouver, with same-day appointments often available.
