Carrier Furnace Error Codes
Carrier — along with Bryant and Payne, which share the same controls — is a premium furnace line common across Greater Vancouver. Carrier boards report numbered status codes on an LED visible through the sight glass, which narrow the fault quickly for a technician who knows the platform.
How Carrier shows faults: Carrier, Bryant and Payne furnaces flash a numbered status code on the control LED. Common ones are noted below alongside the underlying fault condition.
Ignition Lockout (Status 14/34)
highYour Carrier, Bryant or Payne furnace failed to prove flame within its trials and locked out. The control flashes a status code (often 14 or 34) on the LED through the sight glass.
Weak Flame Signal
highThe flame-proving current is too low, so the Carrier board closes the gas valve. The most common single furnace fault we see in Greater Vancouver.
Pressure Switch Did Not Close (Status 31)
highThe inducer ran but the pressure switch never confirmed draft, so ignition is blocked. Carrier reports this commonly as status code 31.
Limit Circuit Lockout (Status 13/33)
highThe high-limit circuit opened too many times from overheating and the board locked out — an airflow protection fault.
Flame Rollout / Manual-Reset Limit
criticalFlame rolled out of the burner area and tripped the manual-reset rollout switch. Safety-critical — requires technician diagnosis before reset.
Blower or Inducer Motor Fault
highThe Carrier control cannot drive the inducer or main blower as commanded and stops the furnace.
Reversed Polarity or Poor Ground
moderateCarrier boards need correct line polarity and a solid ground to read flame; a fault here causes intermittent no-heat and flame-sense problems.
